Don’t Get Hangry This Veganuary
Jan 10, 2020
Hands up who’s doing #Veganuary?
In case you’ve been living under a rock for the past few weeks, Veganuary is a charity campaign that aims to get people to try a vegan diet for the month of January – bonus points if you can keep it up all year! A whopping 350,000 people signed up to Veganuary in the New Year, with many more making it their New Year’s resolution, and are happily discovering the wonderful meat-free and dairy-free food options out there.
“But what about eating out?!”, we hear you cry. Luckily for you, Swansea city centre is bursting with great places to grab a vegan bite – from vegan-only cafes, to restaurants with fantastic vegan choices. We’ve rounded up some of the brilliant Swansea eateries for a plant-based meal, but there are plenty more out there. And if you’re struggling, just remember that you aren’t doing it alone… VE-GAN DO THIS!
Yogaya is a not-for-profit vegan cafe and yoga studio. There you can enjoy home-made food in a cosy café. The delicious Vegan Breakfast is a must!
Craving a proper burger? It doesn’t get much better than the Berserker Burger: a succulent seitan and red onion burger with a zingy tomato chutney, roasted red pepper hummus, vegan cheese, beer battered onion rings and crispy lettuce. Sounds dreamy… You can find Vegan Viking in Swansea Indoor Market every Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
Swansea’s premiere vegan shop! Brontosaurus stocks everything you need for a balanced and varied vegan diet including alternatives of kitchen staples such as butter, eggs, milk and cheese, meat substitutes, sauces and meal kits, as well as treats like ice cream and chocolate! All 100% vegan!
Zinco has an entire vegan menu, with a whopping eight brunch options, four tapas dishes, and eight mains. How does the Vegan Moving Mountains Hot Dog sound?! A jumbo plant-based hot dog with vegan smoked gouda cheese, fried onion, gherkin, tomato, pickled red onion, American mustard and red pepper ketchup in a brioche style roll. Drooling…
Start your day the best way possible: with a vegan sausage, mushroom, avocado, hummus, and chilli jam breakfast sandwich stack.
How do six starters, eight mains, and two vegan deserts sound? The Vegan Blood Orange and Chocolate Tart, served with raspberry sorbet, sounds delicious; it’s even won the PETA Sweet Treat Award!
Can’t imagine getting through January without pizza? We don’t blame you. Pizza Express has you covered with nine different pizzas! Start with the Baked Garlic Mushroom with vegan mozzarella, before moving on to the Vegan Giardiniera: artichoke, mushroom, red onion and black olive pizza, with tomato, vegan mozzarella alternative, garlic oil and parsley.
You won’t be short of vegan options if you’re heading to Las Iguanas; there are three tapas dishes, eight mains, and three deserts to choose from. Fancy the soft tacos with pulled roasted jackfruit in a smoky beetroot chipotle sauce, with avocado aioli? Just order the Jackfruit Tinga Tacos!
Bush Eatery on High Street has a fabulous pizza menu, including the Vegan Jack: jackfruit marinated in a vegan BBQ sauce, herbs, red onion, and baby capers. Topped with a peanut-based vegan cheese and a gentle parsley finish.
