We’re Waving the Flag for Unique Traders During Independents’ Month
Jun 26, 2019

Small is beautiful is the message to visitors to Swansea City Centre, who are being encouraged to shop locally, and with an eye on smaller firms, throughout July, for Independents’ Month.
We are launching the Independents’ Month campaign, to shine a spotlight on some of the most characterful, resourceful and welcoming businesses across our high streets.
Scores of small firms are on board with the month-long campaign, from the City Centre’s family-run grocers, butchers and bakers, to its fashion outlets and food and drink spots.
Look out for The Big Heart Of Swansea’s exciting prize competition across our social media channels, and don’t forget to use the #independentsmonth hashtag to let people know you are getting involved, and supporting local independent businesses.
Competition prizes include £100 cash, four tickets to an Ospreys match, a stay at Swansea’s Grand hotel, as well as vouchers for a meal and entertainment in the City Centre.
Amelia Rudman, Projects Manager at Swansea BID, says: “Here at Swansea BID we value all of our City Centre Businesses, but during Independents’ Month we recognise the unique charms of the scores of smaller firms in our area. It is good to remind consumers that when they use an independent, whether that be a restaurant, bar, estate agent, law firm or a jeweller, the money they spend is likely to be circulated back into the local economy, helping their community to thrive. They are also likely to be supporting local employment, local entrepreneurship, and businesses which give our high street, here in Swansea, its individuality and its unique charm. They might also be supporting skills and trades that are at risk, like traditional butchery skills, baking methods, or regional farms and fishing industries. This adds up to a lot of positive impact, for every spend.”
